Irene Russolillo was born in Italy in 1982. Since 2013 she creates performances as both maker and dancer. In her hybrid works she uses movement, singing and writing to make warm, emotional, pieces where music has always a big presence. The first works she creates are the solos Ebollizione, Strascichi and A Loan. In 2016 she creates a fourth solo The Speech in collaboration with Lisi Estaras\Les Ballets C de la B as a result of the international Equilibrio Best Performer prize, directed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, won in 2014. In the same year she is also awarded the Best Performer Masdanza international prize of Canary Islands and is put forward as a candidate for the Virginia Reiter prize for the best Italian actress under 35. In 2015 she is awarded the Prospettiva Danza prize along with the video-artist Davide Calvaresi for their joint project, Map. In september 2016 she is selected as one of the italian artists in residence at the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris, for the program Les promesses de l’art. In 2018 she creates her first choreography for a group of three dancers This is your skin, a choregraphic concert which premieres at Festival Oriente Occidente in Rovereto. In 2019 she choreographs and performs Mirrors, a group work in the frame of the program Italia Culture Africa, collaborating with the video artist Luca Brinchi and the cultural project Griot; this work premieres in Addis Abeba, Johannesburg and Dakar. As a choreographer, she has been supported by the Italian Independent Dance Network Anticorpi XL, ALDES – Lucca, Festival Oriente Occidente (associates artist 2017/2018) – Rovereto, Garage 29 – Brussels. Now she is part of the choreographers VAN, cultural association based in Bologna. As a dancer she works since 2007, among others, with choreographers such as Micha Van Hoecke (2007 – 2008), Abbondanza/Bertoni (Armida 2014, Ballo Pubblico 2016), Erdem Gunduz (2014), Lisi Estaras (The Speech 2016, MonkeyMind and MonkeyMind Fest 2017 – 2019) and for a long period with Roberto Castello, co-founder of Sosta Palmizi (Vieni via con me TV broadcast 2010, Carne Trita 2011 – 2013, In girum 2014 – 2018). She has collaborated in improvisation with Company Blu, Takla Improvising Group and many other dancers alongside Julyen Hamilton for instance and several musicians, among which her long term collaborators Spartaco Cortesi and Piero Corso. Her nomadic studies allowed her to have a number of important encounters; with Gabriella Musacchio, Marina Van Hoecke and Yoko Wakabayashi in ballet, with coreographers such as Ivan Wolfe, Susanne Linke, Raffaella Giordano, Giorgio Rossi, David Zambrano, Thomas Hauert in contemporary dance, with César Brie and his physical theatre, Javier Cura and his contact-tango, Adi Sha’al, Ivan Wolfe and many others in contact-improvisation. She studied singing and vocal research with many teachers among which Sainkho Namtchylak. She teaches, leading intensive workshops and classes. In 2005 she graduated in International and Diplomatic Relations in Naples.

Nelle sue performance ibride, usa movimento, canto e scrittura per realizzare dei lavori la cui componente emotiva è sempre molto forte e la musica ha una grande presenza. I primi lavori che crea sono gli assoli Ebollizione, Strascichi e A loan. Nel 2016 crea un quarto assolo The speech in collaborazione con Lisi Estaras dei Ballets C de la B, prodotto in seguito al Premio Speciale Equilibrio Roma, diretto da Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui nel 2014. Nello stesso anno ha ricevuto anche il premio come migliore interprete al concorso internazionale Masdanza alle Isole Canarie ed è stata candidata al Premio Virginia Reiter come miglior attrice under 35. E’ del 2015 il Premio Prospettiva Danza, vinto insieme all’artista visivo Davide Calvaresi per il loro progetto condiviso Map. Nel 2016 è tra gli artisti italiani selezionati per il programma Le promesse dell’Arte dall’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Parigi. Nel 2018 crea il suo primo lavoro per un trio di danzatrici This is your skin, concerto coreografico che debutta al Festival Oriente Occidente di Rovereto. Nel 2019 firma la coreografia di Mirrors, lavoro di gruppo realizzato nell’ambito del programma Italia, Culture, Africa del Ministero degli Affari Esteri collaborando, tra gli altri, con l’artista video Luca Brinchi e con il magazine culturale Griot; questo lavoro debutta ad Addis Abeba, Johannesburg e Dakar. Come coreografa, ha ricevuto il sostegno della Rete di danza d’autore indipedente Anticorpi XL, da ALDES, associazione di artisti di base a Lucca, dal Festival Oriente Occidente di Rovereto (artista associata 2017/2018), dal Garage29 di Bruxelles. Al momento fa parte dei coreografi e coreografe VAN, associazione culturale con base a Bologna. Come danzatrice, ha lavorato tra gli altri, per Micha Van Hoecke (2007 – 2008), Abbondanza / Bertoni (Armida 2014, Ballo Pubblico 2016), Erdem Gunduz (2014), Lisi Estaras (The Speech 2016, MonkeyMind e MonkeyMind Fest 2017 – 2019) e per molto tempo con Roberto Castello, direttore di ALDES (Vieni via con me programma tv 2010, Carne Trita 2011 – 2013, In girum 2014 – 2018 etc). Ha collaborato in improvvisazione con Company Blu, Takla Improvising Group, anche affianco a Julyen Hamilton e numerosi musicisti tra cui i suoi collaboratori di lungo corso Spartaco Cortesi e Piero Corso. La sua formazione nomadica le ha consentito di fare importanti incontri, con Gabriella Musacchio, Marina Van Hoecke e Yoko Wakabayashi per quanto riguarda il balletto, con coreografi come Ivan Wolfe, Susanne Linke, Raffaella Giordano, Giorgio Rossi, David Zambrano, Thomas Hauert nell’ambito della danza contemporanea, con César Brie e il suo teatro fisico, Javier Cura e il suo contact-tango e molti altri tra cui lo stesso Wolfe nel contact-improvisation. Ha studiato canto e ricerca vocale con diversi insegnanti tra cui Sainkho Namtchylak. Insegna in workshop intensivi e laboratori di ricerca. E’ laureata in Relazione Internazionali e Diplomatiche (Napoli, 2005).
